Whether we realise it or not, ultimately, the real inner work, when true growth really happens, is always a balancing of the centres. What that looks like for us personally differs, of course — but what is also helpful to everyone is deep exploration of these three power stations, each on its own terms.
Slowly, the Enneagram world is waking up to the fact that we each have all three centres, equally; that your centre triad does not spell a lack of something, that it merely says something about your identification and imbalances.
So far, so good. But recently, I heard someone say, after first agreeing with me that we have them all equally, “Oh, I learned about the centres from those types themselves, so I really understand them now.” But, no. You don’t. If you talk to a Five, you might learn about how a Five specifically, or a head type generally, uses the head centre — expressing its gifts or over-identifying spectacularly with them, depending on their level of balance — but this is still learning about a type, not the quality of the centre.
The reason is that not only do we all equally possess all three centres — we also all have egos that twist and distort their capacities. As long as we are not completely liberated, perfectly balanced human beings, there will be some ego action going on. I’m not saying this is wrong, or that we should be perfectly balanced; very few individuals are. What I am saying is that ultimately, learning about each of these faculties, about how it is perhaps distorted and imbalanced within you, requires experiential exploration. Of yourself, in yourself. You are your teacher — with some assistance, at times!
The Enneagram as a centres roadmap
In this online course, we will be exploring not only what each centre is about, but also all the various flavours of centre scrambling, compartmentalising, and general distortion that the various personality types are using — all of which we might be using, too, regardless of our core personality type 😉. There will also be particular deepening modules for more exploratory work in each of them, and as usual, there is the opportunity to book sessions at a discounted price for those who wish to do so. The course includes:
- 8 live, interactive 90-minute sessions* with teachings, guided sittings, practical exercises and exploratory feedback
- One guided recording on mp3 for grounding yourself in presence and checking that all three centres are online
- The option to book individual sessions at a discounted price**
- Access to connection to Cicci via email for questions and feedback for as long as the course goes on.
We will cover
- The significance of and function of the ego related to the centres
- The way to approach ego work without escalating its activities
- What “balancing the centres” actually means
- How the use of the centres gets distorted when we slide down the levels of balance
- How centre scrambling and compartmentalising looks for each type
- How to approach centre inclusion in our inner work
- Practical exercises for each centre
- Guided explorations for each centre
- Deeper growth work sessions for the gut, heart, and head respectively.

**) Individual sessions during the course
Participants can book individual sessions at a discount for the duration of the course. Sessions need to be booked and paid for before the course finishes but can be booked for a date occurring later. Normally, in individual session is €85, but for the duration of the course, participants pay only €50. A session typically is 60 minutes, but there is always time to finish whatever is going on before we break. (This means we don’t start new explorations coming up on 60 minutes, but we aim to finish what we’re doing so nothing is left hanging. It’s worth mentioning, too, that I don’t normally book sessions back to back, as I never want to be forced to “close a surgery before the operation is complete” 😊).
